OWEN, EMMA MARIA Ashland Gazette - NE July 10, 1930 Emma Maria Owen was born in Stephenson County, Illinois, near Freeport, May 15, 1853. She died from a stroke of apoplexy at 11:45 p.m., July 3, 1930, at Beatrice, Nebr., at the age of 77 years, one month and 18 days. In 1863 she moved with her parents to Montgomery City, MO., and five years later she moved again to a farm seven and a half miles northwest of Ashland. Miss Owen lived with her parents until their death. Her father, John C. Owen, died Feb. 23, 1903, and her mother died March 29, 1909. Three brothers and four sisters have preceded her in death. Miss Owen learned early in life the lesson of being pleasant and agreeable. There are left to mourn her death, a sister, Mrs. H. R. Harrison of Memphis; four brothers, Levi Owen of Wyoming; Frank, Tom and Rosa of Memphis. Besides the immediate relatives there are many associates and friends to mourn her death. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Episcopal church, Memphis, on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by the Rev. Walter Neth, the pastor, assisted by Rev. W. N. Wallis of Ashland. A mixed quartet provided the singing. The body was laid to rest in the Ashland Cemetery.
