LAWRENCE WILLIAM DOYLE William Doyle Services Held Services for World War One Veteran Held Tuesday a.m. Funeral services for William Doyle, who died last Friday, August 3, in a Sioux City hospital after a three-week illness, were held Tuesday morning at nine o'clock in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rev. P. R. Kelly officiating. Burial was in Southcreek cemetery, directed by Mohr's Mortuary. Lawrence William Doyle, the son of Bartholomew and Margaret Doyle, was born in Ponca, January 28, 1894, and died August 3, 1945, at the age of 51 years. Growing to manhood in this community he attended Ponca high school. On May 11, 1917, one month after the country entered the first world war, he enlisted with the Iowa National Guard, later being attached to the famous 34th "Sandstorm" division, with Field Hospital Unit 133. He served 26 months in the army, nine of which were spent overseas. Upon discharge from the A. E. F., at Fort Dodge, Ia., on July 17, 1919 he engaged in the retail grocery and meat business with his brother James, in Ponca, for the last 26 years. Mr. Doyle was a charter member of the Chapelle Post No. 117, American Legion, and a past commander of that body, and took an active interest in matters concerning war veterans. Members of the local Legion post, with a guard of honor, attended the final rites. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Margaret Doyle, 92; five sisters, Anna, Margaret, and Mrs. Elizabeth Rust, all of Ponca; Mrs. Mary Mannion of Newcastle, and Dr. Catherine Eisiminger of Hollywood, Calif.; and three brothers, John and Edmund of Sioux City, and James of Ponca. ..............
