MRS. NANCY J. (GARNETT) CALDWELL Mrs. Nancy J., widow of the late S. B. Caldwell, who departed this life at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. M. C. White, near this city, on Wednesday last, the 2nd ??, was the daughter of Mr. Larkin Garnett, born in Albemarle county, VA, in 1804, removed with her parents to Kentucky in 1824, when she married and in 1834 removed to Missouri and settled on their well-known home farm near Woodland, on the H. & St. Jo. Railroad, six miles west of Palmyra. Here this venerable pair, by industry and economy, accumulated a good estate, reared a large and respectable family of early settlers, who have intermarried and located in different neighborhoods, of this and adjoining counties, and have died leaving a good name. Fifty years ago Mrs. Caldwell became a member of the Baptist Church, and lived and died within its pale. During her widowhood, deceased made her home among her children, principally at the residence of Judge Barr or Mr. M. C. White. Her remains were mournfully laid away at Pleasant Hill Church on Thursday, and doubtless the spirit has gone to dwell in that happy home where the wicked cease to trouble and the weary are at rest. "I would not live always; no, welcome the tomb; Since Jesus hath lain there, we dread not its gloom; There sweetly we'll rest till He bid us arise, To hail Him in triumph ascending the skies."
