MANNION, WILLIAM
IN MEMORIAM - WM. MANNION 1926

It was a sad week to chronicle the death of our friend William Mannion 
a man as God ever made. He left his family and grandchildren to whom his name will be tenderness and love so long as they may live. His years were 
long but full of life from the cradle to the grave.

Just a fortnight ago the writer had the pleasure to meet him, and was 
surprised to see his countenance, though usually calm and sedate, light up with the sweetest smiles and he told me he had a nap and was enjoying a 
dream which carried him back to the happy day on which he received his first communion, and that he was weaning his soul from all earthly 
affections, lifting its aspirations to heaven and laying its prayers at the 
foot of the divine throne. Thus in dreaming and praying, he spent his 
illness, the last illness he was destined to spend on this earth.

The funeral was held from St. Peter's Church on March 15. Rev. Father 
Giblin being the celebrant of the solemn requiem mass. The remains were laid at rest in Calvary cemetery, a large concourse of people. May he rest in peace. 
Mr. Mannion's six sons were pallbearers.

Mr. Mannion is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Mannion, and ten children, namely: 
George and Leo of Marshall, Minnesota; William of Obert, Nebraska; John and 
Laurence of Sioux City, Iowa; Michael, Charles and Joseph of Newcastle, Nebraska; 
Mrs. Michael Dougherty of Newcastle, Nebraska and Mrs. Minnie Rice of Oklahoma 
City, Oklahoma. Mr. Mannion is also survived by thirty-seven grandchildren and 
five great-grandchildren.

He was born in Ireland and was 86 years old at the time of his death. 
He was the oldest member of the Holy Name society of St. Peter's parish. 
The members of which escorted the remains to the church and cemetery.
