WILLIAM PENN CALDWELL Shelby County Herald, February 23, 1966 William Penn Caldwell, 66, was born July 15, 1899 near Leonard, the son of Clarence Church and Fannie Sue Penn Caldwell. Death came on February 18 following surgery at Macon. Mr. Caldwell attended the Shelbina school and was a graduate there. He later attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. He had resided on a farm at Leonard the past 23 years. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Shelbina Methodist Church and the Order of Masons at Bethel. On May 7, 1927 he was united in marriage with Miss Pearl B. Hawkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hawkins of Shelbina. To this union were born three children: William Church, Mary Kathleen (Mrs. Gene Bowdish) of Leonard and Nancy Jean (Mrs. Harold Rainey) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition to the above family he is survived by: his mother, Mrs. Fannie Vogt of the Pleasant Hill Rest Home in Shelbyville; two sisters, Frances (Mrs. Fletcher Crawford) of Monroe City and Hazel (Mrs. John Payne) of LaGrange, IL; five grandchildren, Lesa and Lynn Caldwell and Becky, Fannie and Joe Bowdish. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Donald Rooks at the Hayes Funeral Chapel in Shelbina. Burial was in the Leonard Cemetery.
